Greenhouse farming is the solution for global warming

Since the earth’s temperature is continuously increasing and this warming of the climate gathers alarming pace posing a danger to agriculture. To save this, greenhouse cultivation is the only way to save crops of flowers and vegetables.

Greenhouse farming is concerned with indoor cultivation of plants inside a building with glass walls and roof under controlled condition. This indoor form of cultivation has become necessary as temperature ideally required for flower cultivation is no longer available, not even during winter.

According to Floriculturists the ideal day and night temperatures for flower cultivation are 28 and 18 degrees Celsius respectively.

However, they also point out that the temperature in most parts of the country remained above this level even in the peak winter season.

India being a major exporter of flowers but the gradual warming of temperature would finally tell on flower production in the country.

Considering the alarming situation and in the wake of the climate change, greenhouse farming is the only way to protect crops and manage a better yield than in normal condition. Farming under controlled condition, protects crops from wind, rain, radiation, and precipitation.

Seeking this many people are switching to greenhouse farming and many organizations are also provides training to farmers in greenhouse technology for higher productivity.

Greenhouses have boosted indoor gardening

The Greenhouse technology is picking up in India, as it offers higher yield under less area as compared to open land cultivation. A green house is a framed structure covered with a transparent and translucent material that allows controlled cultivation under less area.  Although the initial investment to adopt greenhouse technology is a little high, yet there are options for subsidy loans in case of constructing green house.

Greenhouse farming not only provides a controlled environment to the crops that requires special weather conditions, it also helps in maintaining the ecological balance. Greenhouse farming has come out as solutions for many problems including decline in the agriculture land.

Taking the advantages into consideration, Saveer Biotech, the only greenhouse manufacturers in India has introduced its in-house R&D center, recognized by Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Tips for Beginners to Start Greenhouse Farming

As greenhouse farming is getting more popularized, there are many people who are beginning as greenhouse gardeners. Although enthusiasm is an admirable trait for the beginning greenhouse gardener, but one should also follow the practical steps that ensure your efforts are successful.

One should keep these tips in mind as they begin their exciting foray into greenhouse gardening.

1. Get a Thermometer. One of the most important equipment that one needs to buy is a thermometer. The thermometer will inform you where to shade, when to heat, when to ventilate and what area to cool.
2. Determine Your Plants’ Space Needs. One should always know how much room a particular plant would require in order to grow without any hindrance. This helps in augmenting in greenhouse food production. It’s important to remember that overcrowding the plants or the place can lead to growth restrictions.
3. Start with Seeds Rather Than Seedlings or Cuttings. One should plant seed in their plant growth chamber instead of seedlings or cuttings from another location as this will reduce the probability of insect, mite or disease problems.
4. Start with Easy-to-Grow Plants. On should always start with plants that are easy to grow, as this will help boost their confidence. Beginner can start with lettuce, basil and coleus, followed by tomatoes, seedless cucumber, eggplant and hot pepper plants.
 5. Take Steps to Keep Pests Away. To protect the greenhouse plants from insects and other diseases, one can install insect screens on air intakes to reduce the introduction of pests. Apart from this one can also use vermibed that provides protection from termites, ants & mice due to high grade polymer material.

Following these tips, will make your greenhouse activity easy and will produce effective result. To boost young gardeners, Saveer Biotech – a leading Greenhouse Suppliers in India offers a wide range of customizes greenhouses.

All That You Need To Know About Gerbera Cultivation

Gerbera is one of the most attractive, commercial cut flower that is grown under different conditions across the globe. The origin of the flower is in Asia and South Africa. They are also grown through varied greenhouse farming in India. Let us learn something more about the plant.

-          Required Climate:

The plant mostly requires bright sunshine as it helps in the growth and quality of the flowers. However, during summer the plant needs diffused sunlight.

-          Soil Condition:

The best soil for Gerbera cultivation is red lateritic soils, as it has all the essential qualities.

-          Varieties of Gerbera

You will come across many multi coloured Gerbera varieties cultivated developed through gerberacultivation in polyhouse.

-          Fertilizers Requirement

Cultivators need to keep in mind that the top 30cm of soil should possess 30% organic material. Thus, it is advised to use organic manures.

-          Irrigation

This plant requires a lot of water. It is best to lay a drainage line below the beds for disposal of excess water. Many plant growth chamber manufacturer design specific space for the cultivation of these plants.

-          Pest Control

The principal diseases of this plant are majorly, Pythium, Sclerotinia, White rust, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium. And the major pests that may damage the plants are, Red Spider Mite, Aphids, Thrips, and White Fly. In order to keep a check on the above, it is advised utilize 1500 liters/spray at an average interval of once in a week.

-          Harvesting

The first flowers can be harvested within 75-90 days of planting. Post harvesting, the flowers must be kept in a bucket with clean water. These flowers are very delicate. Thus, they should be hand handled.

Therefore, if you are planning to cultivate Gerbera Plants, you need to prepare the growth chambers for plants beforehand and take good care of it.
